A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF

MIAMI LAKES, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING A WORK ORDER

TO FIX THE FLOODING ISSUE IN MIAMI LAKES WEST BY

HIRING CONTRACTORS AND ENGINEERS TO CREATE A

SEWER AND DRAINAGE SYSTEM ON ALL ROADS IN MIAMI

LAKES WEST THAT ARE EFFECTIVE AT DRAINING WATER

TO PREVENT AND REMEDY THE IMMENSE FLOODING ISSUE

THAT IS CURRENTLY A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR MIAMI LAKERS

ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE TOWN; MIAMI LAKES MIDDLE SCHOOL

TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE GRADES 9-12 (“Miami Lakes Middle 

and High School”); LOWER PROPERTY TAXES; BAN ON ALL RENTALS

OF MULTI-FAMILIES SINCE RESIDENCES IN MIAMI LAKES ARE
SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLINGS; BAN ON ALL AIRBNB AND/OR

SHORT TERM RENTALS; ANNEX COUNTRY CLUB INTO MIAMI LAKES

 

WHEREAS, the Town of Miami Lakes (“the Town”) has a major flooding issue in the Miami Lakes West area of the Town that is a burden on the town residents; and

 

WHEREAS, with authorization and monetary aid by Miami-Dade County, the Town now seeks to remedy the huge issue that Miami Lakers face daily that has detrimentally affected their lives causing a huge burden; and

 

WHEREAS, the Town lacks a reputable and high-quality public high school and there is a dire need for a high school within the boundaries of the Town to send our future leaders to be educated adequately; and

 

WHEREAS, although property taxes are relatively low in the Town, we still have room to lower them even more;

 

WHEREAS, multi-family rentals and Airbnbs are low-class, diminish the value of the households, goes against traditional family values and brings people to the Town that otherwise would not be able to afford housing in this high-class township;

 

WHEREAS, the township has unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County, Florida to the north that deserve to be incorporated into the Town of Miami Lakes, Florida;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MIAMI LAKES, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 

 

Section 1. Recitals. The foregoing Recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by this reference.

 

Section 2. Approval of Work Order. The Town Council approves Work Order Number 1 hiring contractors and engineers to formulate a plan to gut the roads in Miami Lakes West and put in a new sewer and drainage system that does not flood Miami Lakes West.

 

Section 3. New High School. The Town Council approves the expansion of Miami Lakes Middle School to include grades 9-12 to be called Miami Lakes Middle and High School (MLMHS). 

 

Section 4. Property Taxes Lowered. Property taxes in the Town are lowered by 0.6%.

 

Section 5. Ban on Multi-Family Rentals, Airbnbs and/or Short Term Rentals. Since the Town residences are expressly single-family dwellings, all multi-family rentals are banned including Airbnbs and short term rentals.

 

Section 6. Annex Country Club, Florida Into Miami Lakes, Florida. Unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida to the north of the Town called Country Club, Florida is annexed and incorporated into Miami Lakes, Florida.

 

Section 7. Effective Date. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

 

Passed and Adopted this 9th Day of January, 2023.
